Tell a Great Story!

Continuing Education at Capilano University
Course Number: 91033
Dates: 6 Thursdays, Feb 6 – Mar 13 2014
Length: 2 hrs
Times: 7-9pm

Course Description

Who doesn’t long to tell a great story? This course explores the inner work of the storyteller, and is guaranteed to get you telling with joy, ease and skill. A dynamic, imaginative process called ‘Sparking the Muse’ — a series of tried-and-true artistic and kinesthetic activities — will support you in accessing and exploring the core story. Memorization is not required. This expressive process will prove invaluable in all future presentation work. Traditional world tales, personal stories and poetry shape each session, and there will be opportunities to tell at upcoming local storytelling events. Discover what a discipline, a gift and a pleasure storytelling can be. Instructor Abegael Fisher-Lang tells stories in classrooms, churches, festivals and community events.

Facilitator

Abegael Fisher-Lang is a certified Life-Cycle Celebrant, creating bespoke, personal ceremonies to mark significant turning points for individuals, families and organizations. The aspects of language, symbol, ritual, life story and the changing elements of the year shape the vessel for ceremony. Each event is uniquely personal, new and yet mythic at the same time. Abegael is on the faculty of the Celebrant Foundation and Institute as an instructor for Family and Children’s Ceremonies. Since the beginning, humans have always gathered to recognize changes in life with ritual. Preparing a personal ceremony to celebrate at a 50th or 75th birthday, a retirement, a move, or an anniversary, is a truly symbolic way to honour the story of our lives. As traditional ceremonies have all but faded away, new forms are being created. As a celebrant, Abegael shares her appreciation for sacred ceremonial space and helps others shape and prepare their meaningful life celebrations. www.mythopoetica.ca, www.lifethreads.ca
